Nature and Purpose:

Works as Assistant Academic Advisor on Remote Team. Some provide students with the necessary services related to academic policies and procedures related to Houston State University as they relate to their educational programs.

Primary Responsibility:

Advises enrolled and potential students regarding academic program and curriculum requirements for the program of their choice. Updates detailed student files changes to records as needed. Provides academic advice and student support to a diverse population, including students with academic difficulties.

Analysis and process degree planning and degree exceptions. Ensures the effectiveness of advisory processes through proper use of departmental course offerings and thorough documentation within the university’s secure counseling system.

Guides students on decisions/responsibilities related to their academic and vocational goals. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Special Mentions:

Funding positions eligible for temporary, full-time benefits are expected to expire on or before 12/31/2021. The continuity of functions on continuing funds is exclusive.

This position will not hold private counseling sessions. The job as there will be no stipend for purchasing the items needed to complete the job tasks. A computer with a monitor or a laptop will be provided. Consultant responsible for providing all work-related materials, but not limited to:

  • Secure internet connection
  • Webcam with microphone capability
  • Additional monitors
  • Printer
  • Scanner
  • Headset
  • Office Supplies

Consultants are responsible for ensuring that workstations remain unused, and FERPA agrees to maintain a positive relationship with their students. Employees are not allowed to work in government, unsafe workplaces (e.g., coffee shops, public airspace). Initial contact with the university will be through online submission of emails, phone calls, zoom, and digital forms from the consulting office, students, college partners, etc.
